Learning And Development

Figure 1: Learning and Development

When it’s come to the basics of human resource management, we want to recruit well and get the right people on board, we wanted to manage them and get results and we wanted to develop them too.

Why we need to develop people is people need to grow in the organization and keep improve what they need to be doing. If an individual improved, the organization also improving too. If we recruit the right people, it would be easy to get results because the right people have the right attitudes and natural learning abilities. But we know it is somewhat difficult to get the right people on board, so we need to improve them by learning and development.

Everything is changing so quickly in this era, Learning is the key skill that people need to know in the modern world. Learning has become a strategic issue for the organization, there should be a way to measure the strategic value of learning (Anderson, 2007)

Figure 2: Learning Gap

The start point of learning and development is the systematic identification of the needs for learning (Armstrong, 2014). There are various approaches available to make a choice for the learning and development, a blend of these learning approaches should be used wherever possible.

  • Workplace Learning – can be understood and applied by learning by doing and by reflecting on the experience
  • Self-directed learning – to improve performance in current job or to develop people potential and satisfy their career aspirations
  • Coaching – to develop people skills, knowledge and to improve performance
  • Mentoring – to provide guidance, pragmatic advice by using trained individuals
  • e-learning – network and web-based technology to defining the system, encourage access, advising and assisting individual learners

Conclusion

Learning and development should not be just a training calendar, full of events in which people can go out of work for hours or just a holiday for them. Or it should not be a paper qualification, which people happy about.
Learning and development should come out from the strategy in the organization for the successful people and its organization. People should know what they need to know to achieve the results.
